When You’re A Teen...

Feeling comfortable among your peers is sometimes difficult. Having a healthy smile and fresh breath is one way to help boost your self-confidence. The good news is that by simply following some good oral hygiene tips, it's often easy to do.

BRUSH TWICE A DAY. Studies have shown that a large percentage of teens brush only in the morning. Brushing sufficiently at night can remove the food debris that leads to bad breath.

FLOSS EVERY DAY. Again, studies show that most teens do not floss regularly. Those who do floss, only do so about once a week. Bacteria that cause bad breath tend to live between teeth, where only floss can reach.

BRUSH YOUR TONGUE, TOO.  Not all children have been taught to brush their tongue along with their teeth, but bacteria love to gather in areas near the back of the tongue as well.

Ina addition to good home care, visiting our office according to the schedule we recommend for cleanings and examinations can help keep your mouth clean and breath sweet.

DRAGON BREATH BLOWOUT. Although most bad breath is caused by bacteria in the mouth, there are foods, habits, and illnesses that can also affect breath. These include:

  • postnasal drip
  • garlic
  • onions
  • tobacco products
  • alcohol
  • dieting or hunger
  • digestive problems
  • respiratory problems, such as asthma

Some things on the list can simply be avoided. Others may require professional help.
